PAUL MARTIN
Paul Martin enters the 2024 campaign serving as a Regis University assistant coach for the 18th consecutive season.
He helped lead the Rangers to the 2008 NCAA Tournament in his first year on the bench and most recently aided in seven straight appearances in the NCAA Tournament. Martin's primary on-court duties include development and growth of the Regis servers.
While attending UCLA as an undergrad, a passion for volleyball quickly developed watching the women’s matches in the fall and the men’s matches in the spring. A few years of living in Redondo Beach, Calif., after graduation expanded Martin’s passion for beach doubles.
Martin landed his first coaching assignment in the mid-1990s with the former Boulder Volleyball Club. In his third club season (along with Darren Swanson), he guided the 1997-98 BVC 15-Gold to both a regional title and a spot in the Junior National Championships. Other coaching appointments included boys high school/club teams, a stint with the University of Colorado women’s club team, and an incredibly rewarding experience leading a Boulder-based Special Olympics team.
While his University of Wisconsin master’s degree in cartography served him well at the United States Geological Survey, Martin decided the early retirement landscape looked too good at the end of 2007 and quickly segued to the Regis staff.
A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Martin continues to root for the Pirates, Steelers, and especially the five-time Stanley Cup champion Penguins.
